It's all on. After being smashed, battered and generally outplayed last week we have a chance for revenge, to put things right and to win a series.
England on the other hand are talking it up as though they've already won. I like Lancaster's balls. The bloke speaks his mind and is massively confident. He should be, as despite reshuffling his back line, his team are arguably even better now than last week. Manu on the wing will be a huge threat, the sort they haven't had since Robinson retired.
Pluses for us:
- Ben Smith goes to full back. That should be an automatic win for us.
- Savea is back allowing Jane to go to right wing and consequently put the ball in the correct hand so he can use his fend.
- the scrum can be salvaged if the right players are on the field. The scrums at the end of the game last week worked well.
Negatives from last week:
- Loosies - if those three play like that again, we lose, and I expect none of them to even wear the Black jersey again. While it is now sacrilege to question Richie, deep down I'm sure he knows it wasn't good enough. Same for Kaino and Messam. Terrible. Robshaw has them by the short and curlies.
- Scrum - Coles et al were palpably weak at scrum time. That's not going to be fixed in a hurry but at least we know a year from time (RWC2015) that our tight play needs work.
- Conrad fresh from being battered by Eastmond and Manu now has to face Burrell who is even better than both those guys. I know he's awesome but the prospect must have him a little worried.
We won the game with our stronger bench last week and one flash of inspiration from Cruden. England's bench will be much stronger this week but equally we hold our trump card in Barrett coming on to liven things up at 10 if we need to.
I'm excited. The poms are very good and it's great to have a deadly enemy, it makes you play harder. No point in us getting comfortable at the top. See what happens when you expect to win all time!
